Drying Herbs for a Cozy Cottage

I am thinking of going to the Farmer's Market and buying some fresh organic herbs to dry and jar for the upcoming winter months. Doesn't it all just sound cozy? Then my mind started wandering. A quaint cottage at the edge of a forest where wild herbs and berries grow all around. A refreshing babbling brook nearby. A cobblestone path from the oval topped cottage door meandering towards the forest where the path fades into a dirt road. A wishing well in front of that little cottage, a bucket waiting to be filled. Fresh herbs hanging from the eaves of the roof...the smell of fresh baked apple pie floating from the flower boxed lined windows. Round puffs of billowy smoke emerging from the rustic stone chimney. Yes, this is my dream cottage. *sigh* A place amongst nature where I can hear the welcoming chirps of the birds in the morning to the sweet song of the crickets and frogs that put me to sleep in the evening as I sip a hot cup of chamomile mint tea. Oh yea and about 30 cats. Lol!

Okay snap out of it, Michelle! So, as I was saying...I'd like to dry some herbs and store them in labeled jars and as I was thinking about posting this, I was looking for the perfect pictures to post and found these adorable prints!

These prints are by Lisa Audit. You can see her other prints here. Some of them I'm sure you've already seen but I've never seen the herbs! I might have to buy a set. :)

I'd rent from you if you ever needed someone to cottage sit!! LOL.. but I love the idea of the herbs. I've done it before. Some I've had a hard time growing inside. Lavender for one.. Rosemary is my favorite..so fragrant. Let us know how you do and which is your favorite. Love the prints!

I'm going to live just down and across the river from you. Come on over and have blueberry wine, with fresh scones and muffins. Our cats can play together, and we can talk about recipes, and dreams. Hugs, Kathleen

Such great ideas! I am growing three herbs and will need to save them for winter. Lovely pics.

Great graphics. I think I'm going to freeze some basil instead of drying it this time.

Drying herbs is such a wonderful to preserve them! Sage dries incredibly easily, as does dill. Not sure about the others. What I want to do is grow a window box herb garden indoors in the winter. :) xo
