Timeless Romance at the Movies

Okay, so I'm sure you've noticed my LOVE for the Edwardian era. Since I'm in the middle of my move and can't put anything personal up (unless you want to see boxes...I mean, I could try to make something creative out of them but I fear it would still be boring), I thought I would focus on romance in the movies. :) The above picture is taken from the website http://www.erasofelegance.com/. They sell the most beautiful vintage items.

A Room with a View - Helena Bonham Carter and Julian Sands - by far one of my favorite films! The scenery was spectacular in this movie. I highly recommend it for that very reason.

Who can ever forget the timeless classic Somewhere in Time with the beautiful Jane Seymour and the late Christopher Reeves. A time travel romance that's sure to make you believe true love can span time.

And Anna Karenina, a must see classic written by Leo Tolstoy starring Sophie Marceau (one of my favorite French actresses) and Sean Bean.

And The Golden Bowl with Uma Thurman and Jeremy Notham. This film was also very pleasing to the eye both in costume and scenery.

And of course Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen in Pride and Prejudice.

I think with the cozy weather upon us it would be nice to curl up in a warm blanket, a cup of tea and one of these fine classics.

Oh lol! "Somewhere In Time" just happens to be one of my favorite childhood movies of all time! Seriously! I thought i understood the meaning of love at 7 years old after watching this film. It is SO GOOD and I could watch it over and over again till this day.

I've never seen any of the others, but I love Keira in the new P&P! I know Austen snobs hate it, but I just feel so carried away by the elegance and language! When they're at the ball, I just want to be whisked away!

Boy, does Keira Knightly look gorgeous, or what??

Room with a View...oh, I loved that movie! I remember seeing posters of it all over the Underground when I was in London that spring.

Anna Karenina - I want to see the old version with Vivien Leigh as Anna. Leigh was one of the most beautiful actresses!

Some great movies you have here. I love romantic movies and my wonderful husband has been known to pick out some great ones for me all on his own I might add. Think I'll keep him around. hehehe

Im not keen on romantic movies for the storylines, but I do like period dramas just for the clothes and the decor of the rooms. When I was little I loved the film Mary Poppins because I always wanted to be a 'rich lady' living in Edwardian England or wear dresses like Scarlett O'Hara. (Though I wouldnt have wanted to do the laundry) X

Hello,
First of all, thank you for stopping by my (last week's) Show and Tell.
And second, I am so glad to have discovered your blog, though technically you've found me first!
We moved house in the summer, and we still have lots of unopened boxes in the garage. And some in the den.And my workroom-to-be. So, yes , I do get the picture and I do wish you the very best!
As for the movies I like. A Room with A View is by far my favorite. I first saw it as a teenager and it has made my heart melt. Closely followed by Miss Potter, now, but still. I also loved the decor in both films. I'd say I like most films that involve Jane Austen and the English countryside.
So, have a great weekend, Oh and I will add you to my sidebar reads.

'Somewhere In Time' is my husband's favorite movie. Every now and then, I would find him watching the movie late at night by himself. He bought the music sheets and plays it on the piano. Sometimes, he gets Melody to sing along with him. I think he still has a big crush on Jane Seymour!

Hi Michelle,
Great selection of movies! Did you make it to see the Duchess? The costumes were to die for, but the poor duchess had such a miserable marriage.
I like your new look.
Happy moving day!
