I'm so excited because today I'm having my meeting with my paranormal group (I know you guys have read this on my profile). Sounds kinda geeky, I know but our group is so much fun. We actually investigate purported haunted places here in the Northwest. Anyhooooo...we haven't met since November because of the holidays so I'm excited to see everyone! We usually bring something to eat to share with the group so today I decided to make these gorgeous babies! Stella also wanted to watch. Can you see her?
Chocolate Shortbread Hearts
Combine flour, brown sugar, cocoa, instant coffee and cinnamon in a bowl and mix to combine. With a pastry blender cut butter into dry mixture until it resembles fine crumbs. Knead dough with hands until it forms a smooth ball. Roll dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thick. Use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut dough. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet, 1 inch apart. Re-roll dough as necessary. Bake in preheated 325 degree F oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until edges are set.
Chocolate Frosting:1/2 cup semisweet chocolate pieces1 teaspoon shortening
Combine chocolate and shortening in saucepan and stir over low heat until melted. Dip each cookie in chocolate and place on wax-paper lined cookie sheet. Let stand until chocolate sets.

These sound great!
My daughter belonged to a paranormal group in Denver until recently. She really enjoyed it until the politics in the group became annoying. She loves to investigate haunted places. We went to Estes Park last fall and visited the Stanley Hotel which is supposed to be haunted. We are going to try to go back in June and stay in one of the haunted rooms so she can look for ghosts.
OMG that looks so good I want to try make it! Paranomal I will be can't wait to hear what happened.

Michele,
I think I've just gained a few pounds looking at those cookies...yummy!
How neat that you're involved in a paranormal group. How you ever seen a real "ghost" or something you just couldn't explain? I would love for you to share some of your experiences with us!
My son is a member of a group here in Northeast Tx. I havent got to attend any of the investigations, but would like to. We lived in a haunted house for several years and I guess that is why he is so interested in it.We also stayed in a haunted hotel on our honeymoon. THe Crecent Hotel in Eureka Springs. Have a great meeting.

Michelle! The cookies sound wonderful and so festive too- what's not to love about shortbread and THEN make it chocolate!!! A paranormal group? would love to find out more about that- I LOVE that stuff. I have a group of friends who do too and we have gone on "fieldtrips" around Chicago- so very interesting! Enjoy your day! Patti
Yummy! I laughed when I saw Stella hidden among the ingredients!
Fabulously X File-ish cookies!!!!

Those are NOT on my diet!!! But they look divine. You make such pretty desserts. And there is nothing like sweets made from scratch. Kuddos to you! I'm sure your group will devour them. Chocolate is a girls best friend afterall.
Now THAT's what I like, an easy fast cookie recipe. They look yummy. Also, I like the pictures on your sidebar of your cats. They are just so cute. They look like they get along well too.
Oh, yummy...there is nothing quite like the aroma of chocolate baking. I bought all the ingredients to make the turkey burgers for tomorrow night's dinner. Thanks for all these great recipes, dear Michelle!
Oh, those chocolate shortbread hearts look fabulous! I am hosting a Valentine's tea at my home so I think I shall have to make those hearts for my guests.
